ELP Admissions Criteria

Willow and Sycamore at Oasis Academy Shirley Park Primary
Willow Class and Sycamore Class at Oasis Academy Shirley Park Primary are our Enhanced Learning Provisions for children aged 4-11 who have the primary need of moderate learning difficulties (MLD) and a range of needs associated with it.
Our Enhanced Learning Provision is for children who meet the Croydon admissions criteria for an ELP and have been placed by the panel.
Willow and Sycamore are unlikely to be a suitable setting for a child who has a severe or profound and multiple learning difficulty.
Willow and Sycamore pupils should be able to engage with and benefit from access to a mainstream setting AND have an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) naming the school and specifying that their needs can be met at the ELP.
Aims for the provision
• To foster a love of learning through the teaching of interesting, engaging and relevant lessons.
• To give our children the necessary life skills to help them become independent young people.
• To support our children’s social skills to enable them to build friendships.
• To give our children confidence to enable them to express their needs and opinions.
Criteria for Admission
Our children:
• Are primary school aged, 4 – 11 years.
• Have an EHCP with a diagnosis of MLD
• Are able to access the primary school curriculum in most subject areas, with appropriate modifications and adjustments, working within or below average age-related expectations.
• Can communicate their basic needs and wants to familiar adults
• Are able to engage in social interactions, with support, but may have difficulties with social cues.
• Are able to learn and follow behaviour expectations and routines, with support and reminders.
• Are responsive to adult direction and able to focus on activities independently for short periods, with appropriate prompting and scaffolding and without constant one-to-one support.
• May have social and emotional needs, including anxiety, however they are able to learn how to identify stress/anxiety signals and take preventative action and/or use simple strategies to manage this and to function socially in a group.
Our Provision
- Classroom Structure
Willow Class - Based around continuous play and the early years.
Sycamore Class - A more formal working environment.
· Facilities
Access to mainstream facilities to promote inclusion and collaboration.
A dedicated outdoor area, purposefully designed to cater to the unique needs of our children.
· Community Engagement
Regular visits to the community are arranged to enrich the children’s learning experiences.
Draft exit criteria
Pupils will be monitored via the annual review and may be able to transition to a more suitable provision if they are:
a) Performing over and above the expected levels in core subjects.
OR
b) Are unable to access the mainstream setting and/ or their rate of progress is compromised. In this instance, a child may need to be considered for a more specialist provision.
We expect that most of our children will transfer to mainstream secondary schools with an ELP, or equivalent, for Year 7.
